Nucleon Transition Form Factors and New Perspectives
نویسنده
چکیده
The status of the electro-excitation program to study baryon resonances at Jefferson Lab will be exemplified by the most recent results on resonance parameters and transition form factors in single and double-pion production. These results demonstrate that the separation of resonance and background contributions and therefore the extraction of the electro-coupling amplitudes of resonances become easier and cleaner at higher four-momentum transfers (Q). Furthermore, the double-pion in comparison to the single-pion channel shows a higher sensitivity to higher excited resonances and a distinctly different Q dependence of the background amplitudes. The combined analysis of the singleand double-pion data reduces model dependent uncertainties significantly, which allows us to extract the resonant electrocoupling amplitudes with an unprecedented quality.

Recent measurements of nucleon resonance transition form factors with CLAS at Jefferson Lab are discussed. The new data confirm the assertion of the symmetric constituent quark model of the Roper as the first radial excitation of the nucleon. The data on high Q nπ production better constrain the branching ratios βNπ and βNη for the S11(1535). For the first time, the longitudinal transition ampl...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Form Factors of Baryons
Electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon and its excitations (baryon resonances) provide a powerful tool to investigate the structure of the nucleon. These form factors can be measured in electroproduction as a function of the four-momentum squared q = −Q of the virtual photon. In this contribution we present a simultaneous study of the elastic form factors of the nucleon and the transition ...

Recent measurements of nucleon resonance transition form factors with CLAS at Jefferson Lab are discussed. The new data resolve a long-standing puzzle of the nature of the Roper resonance, and confirm the assertion of the symmetric constituent quark model of the Roper as the first radial excitation of the nucleon. The data on high Q nπ production confirm the slow fall off of the S11(1535) trans...
متن کاملForm Factors and Diffractive Scattering ?
Hadronic elastic and transition form factors are used to describe elastic nucleon-nucleon and pion-nucleon scattering, as well as diffractive excitation of nucleon resonances in an optical model. Very good quantitative agreement with available experimental results is obtained.
